Why this perspective is different

Disciplines that are usually separated inside organizations.

Hillary’s perspective on AI search and web optimization comes from working across disciplines that are usually kept apart. Over the course of her career she has worked hands-on in design, copywriting, content strategy, content design, SEO, digital marketing and performance analysis — often inside large, complex enterprise ecosystems.

That cross-functional background shapes the way she approaches digital problems today: not as isolated content, UX, SEO or analytics issues, but as interconnected systems.

Current work

Why AI search is the next evolution of this work.

AI search adds a new layer to a problem Hillary has been working on for years: how organizations structure, express and optimize what they know across complex digital ecosystems.

As AI systems increasingly interpret organizations rather than simply index pages, content strategy expands into questions of knowledge architecture, entity clarity, governance and organizational readiness.

She built Kinetic Pencil to meet that shift with a team rather than a single perspective — pairing her own strategic direction with hand-selected technical SEO engineers, content strategists and digital specialists, so an organization can move from diagnosis through implementation without assembling that capability itself.

  • AI search strategyHow organizations are understood, represented and retrieved by AI systems.
  • Web and content optimizationDiagnosing where digital experiences lose performance, and sequencing the fix.
  • Content and knowledge architectureContent models, entity clarity, taxonomy and the systems that keep them consistent.
  • Organizational transformation and trainingGovernance, workflow, measurement and team capability for AI-era content.
Career highlights

Selected career highlights.

Five turning points that built the practice.

  • Early digital + design

Graphic design, marketing and the emerging web

Began working in graphic design while the commercial web was still taking shape, building experience across print, marketing and early digital experiences — and learning how a message survives translation from one medium to another.

  • The analytics turn

    Building the optimization practice

A long-running role supporting Microsoft Careers became the origin of the analytical approach used across every engagement since: pulling disparate platforms and their incompatible performance metrics into unified dashboards, establishing benchmarks, and using them to say plainly where digital performance stood and what needed to change.

  • SEO + content at scale

    Search-driven content for major corporations

Produced and directed SEO content programs for large enterprises, learning search from the production side rather than the audit side — how content actually gets written, structured, reviewed and published inside an organization, and where that process quietly breaks.

  • Enterprise content optimization

    From audits to performance playbooks

Led analytical content and digital assessments for major global brands, combining qualitative content analysis with performance data to identify what was working, what wasn’t, and what organizations should do next. The through-line: the diagnosis is only useful if it arrives with a sequence of moves attached.

  • Today

Web optimization and AI search transformation

Brings that multidisciplinary experience into the emerging intersection of AI search, content architecture, knowledge systems and digital transformation.

How she works

Finding the story inside the system.

Much of Hillary’s work begins with a problem that is visible but poorly understood: an underperforming experience, an unclear content ecosystem, inconsistent results, or a digital program that has accumulated friction over time.

Her approach combines qualitative evaluation with performance signals to uncover the underlying pattern — then translates that pattern into a practical path forward.

  • 01

    Observe the ecosystem

Content, experience, architecture, acquisition, audience and organizational context.

  • 02

    Follow the signals

Use performance data and behavioral patterns to understand what is actually happening.

  • 03

    Build the playbook

Turn those findings into specific recommendations for what needs to change.

The name

A pencil is potential. Kinetic is what happens next.

Kinetic energy is stored energy in motion — the difference between a thing that could move and a thing that is moving. The name describes what the work is for: taking latent potential in an organization’s content and systems and putting it into motion.

It also reflects a creative practice that predates Hillary’s digital career. Raised by an artist, she began making art in early childhood, studied art in Florence and at the Louvre, and has shown her own work in a solo exhibition.

She originally studied architecture before moving into graphic design and marketing — an early change in direction that, in hindsight, foreshadowed a career spent thinking about architecture in a different form: the architecture of information, experiences and systems.
